Double Six Bali

Double Six is the catchy name that Bali visitors quickly come to know. It refers to one of the most popular streets on the island as well as the name of one of its best beaches.

Double Six Beach

Given its proximity to all the action, Double Six is relatively quiet, wide beach with the best of everything Bali is famous for – sunsets, beach bars, surf and sun. Take a surf lesson, grab a sun lounge and have a coconut delivered with a straw, or take a seat at a beach bar to watch the magical Bali sunset. The choice of beach bar is endless with all levels from very casual (sit in your swimming costume) to the most classy. The beach is known for its relative quietude and being clean – considered a less busy beach than Seminyak beach and cleaner than Kuta. For many people a highlight is watching the sun go down on a beanbag (only brought out at sunset), while sipping a cocktail with live music playing.

Double Six Street

The street commonly referred to as Double Six is officially called Jalan (street) Arjuna. But you can tell your taxi driver to go to Jalan Double Six and he’ll know what you mean. This long street, winds around clothing and jewellery boutiques, art galleries, cafes and bars.

Restaurants on Double Six

Double Six Rooftop
From the famous Sydney restaurateur Robert Marchetti, Double Six Rooftop is one of the largest rooftop bars in Asia. The location has stunning views over beach and Indian ocean which means one of the best places to view the sun setting. The silent cinema where patrons wear earphones while sitting on deckchairs, is a talking point. The food menu includes a host of items cooked over the satay grill of wood and coconut shells including the organic chicken in a hot, sour and salty sauce.

Tekor Bali
With so much great food in Bali from its contingent of famous international chefs, it’s easy to forget to try the local cuisine. Tekor Bali allows you to sample Indonesian dining in a beautiful beachfront setting. Try the banana-leaf wrapped snapper or the tofu and rice dumpling gado gado. Other options worth trying are the duck with sambal. Stick to the Indonesian dishes rather than the western food, which doesn’t compare to the rest of the other smart foreign menus on Jalan 66. However you’ll probably appreciated the refreshingly low prices for the area.

Ocean Blue
This restaurant is another legendary beachfront destination where you’ll find seafood, fresh organic vegetables, homemade bread and pastry. It’s ambient but welcoming. Families and guests straight off the beach (there’s a shower at the back of the restaurant to de-sand) can be found there.

Five Monkeys
Respite from a hard day’s boutique browsing can be found at the burger joint Five Monkeys. Homemade buns encase generous fillings and a sweet BBQ sauce. The signature burger is the Bacon Cheeseburger which has a plumped beef patty, bacon, onion rings and a layer of bacon and BBQ sauce.

Zanzibar
It’s been around a while but diners show no less love for Zanzibar. Meals are American-style large so many guests combine breakfast and lunch by having one meal at Zanzibar. The pizzas are consistently good and there is solid Italian menu of pastas and seafood. It also does Indonesian cuisine very competently. Try the Nasi Goreng – enough to fill the belly of a large hungry foreigner.
